Strong and successful FP5-TRANS4M-R participation to the 2024 SmartRaCon Scientific Seminar

The Smart Rail Control Consortium (SmartRaCon) consists of the members CEIT (ES), DLR (GE), RISE (SE), SINTEF (NO), University Gustave Eiffel – UGE (FR) and Road and Bridge Research Institute- IBDiM (PL). With the goal of hosting an annual scientific seminar on the research and innovations within X2Rail projects, and later Europe’s Rail flagship projects, they have organized the SmartRaCon Scientific Seminar since 2019.
This year, the 6th SmartRaCon Scientific Seminar was held on the 23rd and 24th October in San Sebastian, Spain, hosted by CEIT. The event was a two days hybrid event where three Keynote presentations, seven PhD presentations, 13 Project Presentations and 10 Posters from 10 different Europe’s Rail projects had been presented by 28 Presenters from 16 Presenting entities.
FP5-TRANS4M-R had four outstanding presentations in “Rail management and planning” and “Automation” sessions:
- Marie Lindland presenting “Planning Problems in a Combined Yard and Intermodal Rail Freight Terminal”
- Jonan Morales presenting “Use cases and conceptual system specification for Self-Propelled Wagon”
- David Krüger presenting “Preliminary concepts and specifications for a self-propelled wagon”
- Niloofar Minbashi presenting “An Integrated ETD Prediction System for Yards and Terminals”
FP5-TRANS4M-R was also present in the poster competition by Melissa Tijink with her poster titled: “What is the code of this wagon?”
FP5-TRAN4M-R colleague Jan Bergstrand was among the panelists on “Research and Innovation” in Europe’s Rail.
As a final highlight of the two days event, three scientists and a project were awarded for their outstanding contributions to the seminar two of which were from FP5-TRANS4M-R
- Best Project contribution: Niloofar Minbashi (KTH) An Integrated ETD Prediction System for Yards and Terminals
- Finalist: Aria Mirzai (RISE) Cybersecurity Risk Assessment of Virtually Coupled Train Sets
- Best Poster contribution: Melissa Tijink (Uni. Twente), What is the code of this wagon?
- Finalist: Itziar Ruiz (CEIT), Repair of wheel and rails by additive manufacturing
FP5-TRANS4M-R was also among the finalists for the “Most Supportive Project” award, which was awarded to our colleagues in FP2-R2DATO project.
